‘Beauty awakens the soul to act’
Dante Alighieri
Artist Statement
Kaye Forster
My art practice explores the interconnection between urbanisation and the fragility of nature, always seeking to highlight nature’s beauty and our collective capacity to imagine positive environmental solutions.
My early training was traditional, grounded in oil painting. Today, my work is conceptually driven and employs diverse processes and materials because, for me, the subject dictates the methodology.
I often work in mixed media—oils, wax, pastels, ink, chalks, charcoal, and micro‑gel pens—yet my two enduring favourites remain oil painting and the earliest photographic processes. In particular, very old photographic papers, with all their inherent flaws, have helped me create some of my most meaningful works.
Note: Kaye's practice is located on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, and is represented by the Anthea Polson Art Gallery.
Kaye holds a Master of Visual Arts (Monash University); BA (Art) with High Distinction (Curtin University); Cert of Arts (Massey University), and Certificate of Modern World Literature (Harvard University).
